Children aren't born violent.

Violent behavior is something children learn, often early in life.

Peaceful, nonviolent behavior is also something children can learn,
especially if it is begun early.

The ACT—Adults and Children Together—Against Violence Project provides information based on long-term research to parents and other adults to help them protect children from violence. Through simple, accessible messages and materials, the Project translates the findings from research on early childhood development, aggression, and violence prevention. The program is designed to help adults become positive role models so they can teach young children constructive ways to resolve conflicts, deal with frustration, and handle anger. In doing so, they can help safeguard children from involvement with violence now and in the future.

ACT Against Violence is a collaboration of the American Psychological Association, the National Association for the Education of Young Children, and the Ad Council. Generous funding for this Web site and other components of ACT has been provided by the MetLife Foundation.
