Page Title ACT Against Violence
Prevention Campaign

In recent years, communities around the country have recognized the importance of sponsoring comprehensive violence prevention programs to prevent youth and family violence. The ACT Project is one of the few violence prevention programs that start with the youngest in our population—children aged 0 to 8 years old—by addressing the adults who are the closest to them. ACT provides adults with the knowledge and skills to help young children grow and learn in a positive, nonviolent environment.

The ACT Against Violence Campaign can help communities raise awareness that adults can take action in their own homes, schools, and community to protect children from violence. The campaign includes television, radio, print, and outdoor advertisements and includes a toll-free number where more information can be obtained. The campaign advertisements, created by the volunteer advertising agency Flashpoint Advertising, highlight the innocence of a young child in sharp contrast to the surrounding insults, abuse, and violence. The messages remind parents, teachers, and other caregivers that children learn from what they see and hear. Exposing children to violence and using violence to solve problems teaches children to do the same. At the end of each message, consumers are encouraged to call the campaign's toll-free number, 1-877-ACT-WISE (1-877-9473), or to go to the Web site to find more information about teaching nonviolence to children.
